Newcastle United target Tom Cairney has ruled out a move to St James’ Park after committing his future to Fulham, however says he remains flattered by interest from the Premier League.

Cairney was the outstanding player for the Cottagers last season as they made the play-off semi-finals, and has continued in a similar vein this season, despite his side’s slow start to the campaign.

Newcastle were heavily linked with a move for the midfielder after the New Year, but any such hopes have now vanquished with him recently signing a one-year contract at Craven Cottage and verbally stating his desire to stay in South-West London.

“You can’t put a price on happiness. Last season, I was extremely happy on and off the pitch, and that’s when you play your best football.” said Cairney.

“I wanted to show my happiness to the fans, let them know that I want to be here and try to Fulham forward. I love playing here. That’s what I want to do.

“I feel a responsibility to Fulham. It’s been great ever since I arrived. I enjoy playing football, I really enjoy playing it at the Cottage [home ground] and long may it continue.”
