Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles says his side must go back to the drawing board and ‘get back to basics’ if they are to turn their season around.

Lascelles has been out for almost two months with injury, but returned to the Magpies’ starting line-up last week.

However he was unable to prevent his side from suffering their eighth top flight loss in nine games as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal thanks to a superb Mesut Ozil strike.

“It is important for us all to stick together and really get back to the drawing board and basics,” said the former Nottingham Forest and England youth international.

“Look back at how we started the season. I thought the positives [since Everton] have been our organisation. It was really good and our team shape and tactically as well.

“But we just needed that cutting edge. And with the manager and players we have here, we can definitely sort that out.”

Newcastle face West Ham tonight at the London Stadium as they look for their first win in ten.
