Newcastle United legend David Ginola says he is worried that manager Rafael Benitez’s time at St James’ Park is numbered.

The Magpies have lost eight of their last nine top flight games, seeing them slip from as high as fourth and into the Premier League’s relegation zones and only three points ahead of bottom placed Swansea.

Manager Rafael Benitez joined the club in early 2016, and brought them straight back to the top flight via the Championship.

However Ginola believes if the Spaniard – who is a former manager of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter Milan amongst others – is not given the resources to succeed, he could be on his way sooner rather than later.

“He belongs to top teams. If Newcastle do not make any effort to show him that they want to be at the top, I think he’s going to be on his way,” Ginola said.

Benitez’s current contract at St James Park ends in March 2019.
