Newcastle United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Juventus star Stefano Sturaro after the player’s agent revealed he could leave Italy after the New Year.

The Magpies were said to be interested in the Serie A star during the summer, however with Juventus not willing to sell, no such deal materialised.

However after a difficult start to the season for the midfielder, who has not featured for The Old Lady since mid-November, his time in Italy could soon be coming to an end.

The Italian’s agent Carlo Volpi told Tribal Football: “Juventus have a team strong enough to be highly competitive for Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League.

“Stefano has already played both in CL and in Serie A this year and he wants to train even harder in order to be ready when his moment comes.

“Juventus also have such midfielders as Matuidi, Marchisio and Khedira: they all are around 30 years old and incredibly talented and charismatic.

“There are clubs from the Premier [League] which made clear they are interested in Stefano, it would be unfair to name them but the news is coming out. January is imminent.”

Sturaro signed for Juventus in the summer of 2014 for a fee of around €10 million, and his current contract expires in 2021.
