Newcastle United are preparing a sensation January move for former Real Madrid star Iker Casillas according to reports from Portugal.
Despite the club’s current number one Karl Darlow’s impressive performance against Chelsea at the weekend, Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is understood to be keen to bring a more experienced pair of hands to Tyneside after the New Year, and his former star Iker Casillas is thought to fit the bill perfectly.
The two were together during Rafa’s time at Real Madrid between 2015 and 2016.
Casillas, who made over 700 appearances for Los Blancos in an illustrious 16-year career at the Bernabeu, currently plays his football with FC Porto, whom he joined from Madrid in 2015.
With only six-months left on his contract left at the Portuguese club however, Casillas could be available as soon as January with the Magpies interested in bringing the veteran Spain star to St James’ Park.
Any move for Casillas however would be likely to involve complications over finances, with the shot-stopper earning a reported £5 million a year in wages at Porto.
Magpies fans however aren’t having it, with the Toon army seemingly either wanting the club to invest elsewhere or not willing to believe the rumours from the continent …
Why, we need a decent striker, 2 defenders and a bit more force in midfield.

Is he even any good any more? Last time I heard he'd fallen out with everyone and was on the bench

He is pretty bad now, he makes a lot of mistakes. He’s just living off his former big name.
