Newcastle United have struggled in recent weeks following their return to the Premier League this season, picking up just one point out of the last eighteen available.

The Magpies have slumped down the league’s standings as a result and now face a crucial test ahead in the remainder of the campaign as they seek to secure their status within the top-flight during a period of uncertainty.

Takeover talks continue to rumble on behind the scenes and Rafael Benitez is seeking money to spend in January, having been frustrated with the lack of funding in the summer- which has seen speculation on an exit emerge ever since.

It’s clear Benitez is important to Newcastle’s project and cult-hero David Ginola has echoed that belief, telling TalkSport the club could return to their previous ‘nightmares’ without him.

“To keep Rafael Benitez on board, that’s the main thing for Newcastle. If by any chance Rafa Benitez has an opportunity to go and manage another team, a big name, it’s going to be very difficult for Newcastle to keep him there, right in the north east.”

“Second, talking about the consistency and the stability of the club in the next three, four, five years. Rafa Benitez, if you lose him, you’re going to go back to the nightmares you had in the past.”
