Newcastle United have been handed a potentially huge boost in the January transfer window, with reports suggesting a deal for a prime target could be reached.

Rafael Benitez is keen to bolster his attacking options in the New Year and Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun has been widely linked with a move to Tyneside, after the Turkish striker’s tremendous form this season- particularly in the Champions League.

Reports have varied on the Magpies’ interest and the likelihood of a deal but a huge boost has been handed by a director of the Turkish side. Quoted by Sports WitnessAhmet Nur Cebi confirmed that former Newcastle striker Demba Ba is being considered as a replacement.

“Yes, we are considering Demba Ba as an alternative. It’s also true that we are receiving offers for Cenk Tosun, which is pleasing because it shows we are on the right track.”

“For now, we don’t want him to leave but as you know things can change very quickly in football. If we decide to sell him then we have to look at the alternatives and I can confirm Demba Ba is in our list.”

News that Besiktas are looking for a replacement for Tosun is a boost but it doesn’t make Newcastle’s quest for his signature much easier, as a number of sides, including relegation rivals Crystal Palace, are also keen on his services.
