Newcastle winger Christian Atsu says he is working hard to contribute more in the final third of the pitch for the Magpies.

Rafa Benitez’s side struggled to create clear cut chances against Burnley in the 1-0 defeat on Monday night, and they have scored just three goals away from St James’s Park so far this campaign.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Atsu says he is working to improve his game:

“I am working hard for the team, I think I need to score more goals and create more chances for the other players but I keep working hard and try to build my confidence.”

The Ghanaian international has scored one goal (coming against Stoke City) and has provided one assist this season (which came during the 3-0 victory over West Ham back in August). Last campaign, his record of five goals and three assists from 32 game was dwarfed by Matt Ritchie’s on the opposite flank who contributed 16 goals and ten assists in all competitions.

According to the Chronicle, Benitez is targeting a number 10, a striker and a left back in January so it is safe to assume that Atsu will be given a good number of games this season to improve his numbers.
