Saint-Etienne have offered a new contract to winger Jonathan Bamba, above their previously reported £12,000 a week offer, according to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness).

The French publication report that the France under 21 international had already turned down €55,000 a month to stay with the Ligue One side, which is approximately £580,000 a year. He has however now been offered an improved deal, but it is unlikely to match the offers he will receive from other potential suitors in January.

Bamba’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and he has been linked with moves to Newcastle, Inter Milan and West Ham in recent days. A new improved offer from Saint-Etienne will unlikely worry the Magpies though with the French side seemingly offering such low wages.

The Frenchman was removed from the first team squad earlier this season due to contract talks collapsing but with discussions over a new deal continuing, he has played in the club’s last two league games against Toulouse and Lyon.
