Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking to tie midfielder Jack Wilshere down to a long-term contract amidst interest from a number of Premier League clubs including Newcastle United, reports The Sun.

The Englishman has had a return to form in recent weeks, prompting Wenger to want him to commit his future to the Emirates despite a tough couple of seasons.

Wilshere however, is set to sign a new contract at the club, with his current deal running out at the end of the season, meaning he would be allowed to leave North London on a free transfer.

Newcastle, West Ham and a host of other Premier League clubs are interested in Wilshere, and Wenger now wants to have the situation resolved before the New Year to end all speculation over his future.

Wenger said: “Jack’s situation will be decided in December. I want to give him the first six months of the season not to think about that and then see where we go from there.

“We need to clear things up before the transfer window arrives. At the moment Jack is a little bit in conflict with Mesut Ozil in the position he plays. But ideally we want to keep both of them.”
