Reports that Newcastle are interested in Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron have got some Magpies fans rather excited.
Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com reported yesterday that Newcastle have joined Arsenal in the race to sign the Paraguayan international. The 23 year old only signed for Atlanta last January but he had an impressive debut season in the MLS.
In what was the club’s first campaign in the American league, Almiron helped Atlanta to the playoffs, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists in 30 league games.
His age, and the fact he could be available at a relatively low price compared to similar targets in Europe with the same ability, may have attracted manager Rafa Benitez into making a move for the attacking midfielder.
The Chronicle report that Newcastle are actively pursuing a new number 10 in the January transfer window, and he could well be an option that the Magpies are considering. Here is some of the Twitter reaction:
Cool! He get the fans off their seat, everytime.

I wouldn't jump into conclusions just yet. Remember Mitrović? Didn't score his 1st goal(s) in his debut game and worse he got sent off !!

He’s most likely to stay in Atlanta, would love to see him in the Toon if he does leave though.
