Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is considering a surprise recall for midfielder Henri Saivet for tomorrow’s match against Bournemouth, according to the Chronicle.
The Frenchman has only made one appearance in the Carabao Cup so far this season, but was included on the bench on Monday night for the Magpies’ defeat to Burnley.
Saivet failed to secure a permanent move away from Newcastle in the summer after having a difficult loan spell last season at French Ligue One side Saint-Etienne. The 27 year old moved to St James’ Park from Bordeaux in January 2016 before Rafa Benitez’s arrival at the club, and he has featured just once in two years under the Spaniard.
The injury to Mikel Merino and the poor form of Mo Diame, means Rafa has limited options in central midfield. Isaac Hayden could yet be fit to start against the Cherries but if he is not, Saivet may be given a starting berth tomorrow afternoon.
