Newcastle United face a crucial period ahead in the next six weeks, as the Magpies look to improve on a poor run of form that has seen them win just one of their last six Premier League matches.

Rafael Benitez’s side have tumbled down the standings as a result, on the back of three consecutive defeats, and injury problems have started to take their toll in the squad on Tyneside.

Whilst Mikel Merino and Paul Dummett are on the verge of their recovery, The Shields Gazette quotes Benitez as being unable to share a specific update on the recovery status of captain Jamaal Lascelles and influential winger Christan Atsu.

“Lascelles is getting better, but still he will need some time, and Atsu is the same. It’s too early to say (when they will be back).”

The absences will be a bitter blow to the Magpies ahead of crucial games over the course of the coming weeks against Watford, West Brom and Chelsea, where Benitez will aim to start picking up points once again.

It won’t be easy though with Watford flying high and Chelsea fighting for a top-four spot, though fans will expect a positive result against a struggling West Brom side.
