Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has ruled out any chance of Fernando Torres moving to St James Park after the New Year.
The former Chelsea and Liverpool striker has been heavily linked with a move to Tyneside in recent weeks, with reports suggesting he would make the switch in order to re-unite with his former manager Rafael Benitez.
However, Balague has rubbished such reports and says he expects Torres to remain at Atletico Madrid.
“About Torres and Newcastle: there is nothing at all going on about it.” Balague said.
Balague, a close friend of Rafael Benitez, is seen as one of the most influential and reliable voices in Spanish football, meaning it is as he said extremely unlikely that Torres will be making the switch to St James Park.
The Spaniard has fallen behind all of Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro and Angel Correa in the Atletico striking pecking order, and has made only 1 start all season for the La Liga giants.
