Newcastle United are set for a busy few months as they look to retain their spot in the Premier League and big changes could be afoot, with the Magpies edging closer to a takeover.

That change in the board will see Rafael Benitez handed funds to spend in January but the transfer stories on Tyneside may not be only regarding incoming deals, as there is likely to be outgoing movement too.

Speculation continues to suggest that Serbian striker Aleksander Mitrovic could leave St. James’ Park in January after struggling to earn first-team opportunities this season, with TalkSport citing reports that claim both Southampton and Brighton are keen on his services.

Serbian striker Mitrovic has failed to earn a regular spot in the first-team this season, despite cries from the fans for him to be given a chance, and could be deemed surplus to requirements in the New Year when Benitez rejuvenates his squad.

The 23-year-old will also be keen to cement regular first-team football ahead of the World Cup next summer, where he’ll be aiming to lead the line for his nation.
