Newcastle United have been linked with a shock move for former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, much to the delight of the Toon army.

‘El Nino’ could be offered an unlikely route back to England after struggling for game time under Diego Simeone this season in a move that would see him again partner up with his former boss Rafael Benitez.

Torres played under Benitez during his time at Liverpool, where he found the most prolific form of his career, and the duo also worked together at Chelsea, and it is believed Benitez would be keen a reunion for his former player.

Benitez is looking to bolster his attacking options after a poor start to the season in front of goal from his current crop of strikers, and with Torres out-of-favour at Atletico and the Magpies strikers not thus far firing on all cylinders, the move could suit both parties.

At 33, many would say Torres is past his best, however the Newcastle fans seem to think a move for the former Liverpool star would be a wise one …
