Newcastle United are keen to bolster their squad in January as they look to find stability in the Premier League but they could have to spend more money than they originally anticipated.

Atlanta United’s star playmaker Miguel Almiron has been regularly linked with a move to the North East but a premium price will have to be paid, with MLSSoccer stating a bid in the region of £19m has already been turned down by the North American side.

Almiron became one of the club’s most important players as they joined the MLS this season and the 23-year-old’s performances have certainly caught the eye, giving Atlanta a challenge as they aim to retain his services.

In 31 appearances this season, Almiron has scored eight goals and provided nine assists for his team-mates, which has led to Calcio Mercato claiming Newcastle, Arsenal and Inter Milan are keen on his signature.

With a £19m bid rejected, coming from an unnamed side, Almiron looks set to command a record-fee for an MLS player if he leaves North America and that could be an issue for the Magpies.
