Newcastle United are continuing their quest to sign a top-class striker in January and will send scouts to the Champions League this week.

Turkish Football, citing Fotomac, claim the Magpies will send representatives to watch Besiktas’ clash with Porto on Tuesday as they continue to eye in-form striker Cenk Tosun.

The 26-year-old has been in stellar form this season, netting four goals in as many appearances in the Champions League, which has raised interest in his services- and Newcastle are amongst those desperate for a move.

Reports add that Newcastle will offer €15m for the Turkish international in January but that may not be enough for Besiktas to sell, whilst Tosun is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League but would prefer a deal to take place next summer.

A draw against Porto this week will seal first-place in the group for Besiktas and provide the route into the knock-out stages, something which is considered to be a tremendous achievement for the Turkish giants.

Tosun has been an important part of that team, as well as helping Besiktas win the past two Turkish league titles, so Newcastle may have to offer a higher price.
