Newcastle United have been linked with a huge transfer by reports on the continent, though they face a battle for his signature.

Spanish outletĀ Don BalonĀ claim the Magpies are one of three Premier League side’s interested in the services of Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro, with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur rivalling them for the Frenchman’s signature.

The 30-year-old boasts an incredible record since moving to Spain, netting 67 goals in 144 games for Sevilla before a further 20 goals in 56 appearances in the capital with Atletico.

However, his future remains under question due to the wealth of attacking talent that Diego Simeone has at his disposal, with Antoine Griezmann established as the leading man and Diego Costa set to return to the club in the New Year.

Newcastle would likely have to spend a huge sum to land the striker though, which may be difficult due to their ongoing takeover talks, and Everton may stand as the mot likely due to the money they have to spend.

The Toffees failed to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer and will look to rectify that mistake in January under the guidance of new manager Sam Allardyce.
