Newcastle handed blow in pursuit of £18m-rated striker

|

Newcastle United’s plans for the January transfer window seem to have suffered an immense blow after the latest update concerning their chase for an in-form striker.

Turkish outlet Sporx state Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun wants to remain with the club until the end of the season as he seeks to lift another Turkish league title, as well as helping the club advance in the Champions League.

Tosun’s incredible form this season, which includes four goals in four matches in Europe’s elite competition, has seen the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle linked with his services but the news will hand a bitter blow.

The Turkish international may well consider a move in 2018 though after his nation failed to qualify for the World Cup, which gives him time to move and settle before the European Championships in 2020.

With a reported price of £18m, Tosun is certainly an affordable option for the Magpies and Rafael Benitez is likely to make a move for his signature in the New Year anyway, though the latest update suggests fans must prepare for disappointment.
