Former Newcastle United troublemaker Nile Ranger has landed himself in hot water again with current club Southend United.

From time in a young offenders institute to being fined by the FA for making homophobic comments; and from a rape charge to a conviction for drunk driving, Ranger’s latest exploits may not be the most severe on his ever growing rap list, however it continues what has been a long history of trouble for the still only 26-year-old.

Ranger was left out of Phil Brown’s squad for the 1-1 draw with MK Dons, with Brown not revealing the full reasons behind his omission.

“Nile isn’t involved because of a disciplinary procedure yesterday.” he said.

“It’s not for public consumption what’s happened but it’s just down to discipline and we’ll leave it at that.”

Ranger has since defended himself on Twitter, saying his exclusion was down merely to a lack of ‘poor timekeeping’.

“LADS DONE GREAT TODAY… WE GO AGAIN.. Have to work on my time keeping. #UpTheShrimpers” read his tweet.

The former Newcastle youngster, who spent 10 weeks in prison over the summer, could return this weekend as Southend welcome Oxford United to Roots Hall.
