Newcastle United have had plenty to enjoy this season as the Magpies have been flying high in the Premier League standings, exceeding expectations in their return to the to-flight and having plenty of optimism due to ongoing takeover talks.

Fans on Tyneside have also got to enjoy the meteoric collapse of Sunderland, who were relegated from the Premier League last season and, unlike Newcastle, don’t look set to secure an immediate return to the top-flight.

Sunderland drew 3-3 with fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers last night, a result which saw the Black Cats remain in the relegation spots, and the result cost manager Simon Grayson his job- as he was sacked almost immediately after the final whistle.

If that wasn’t good enough for fans of Newcastle, they also got to witness former striker Sammy Ameobi opening the scoring and following in the footsteps of older brother Shola, who netted three times against Sunderland during his career on Tyneside.

Newcastle fans certainly enjoyed what they saw and quickly took to social media to mock their arch-rivals, who are having a season to forget.
