Newcastle United defender Ciaran Clark has hailed his team-mates for refusing to give up in last night’s hard fought 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

The Magpies had trailed 2-0 at the Hawthorns thanks to goals from Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Field either side of half time, however put up a spirited display to turn things around in the second half.

Clark himself scored Newcastle’s first, before a late Johnny Evans own goal secured a point for the visiting side, and the Irishman has since hailed his team-mates for their desire to get back in the game.

He told NUFC TV: “In the dressing room we’re all very happy after that.

“Especially being 2-0 down as we know we made it difficult for ourselves.

“But we’re very pleased with the draw.

“It was frustrating in the first half, we were organised and they didn’t create too much other than Rondon’s shot that hit the bar from long range.

“To go in 1-0 down was disappointing

“We had the belief to turn things around.”

Newcastle face a tough fixture as they travel to Chelsea on Saturday, however Clark says last night’s result will take them into the weekend with the right attitude.

“We will take real belief out of that and get ready for the weekend.”
