Newcastle United youngster Alex Gilliead has caught the eye of three Championship sides with his performances so far this season.

The Evening Chronicle reports that Hull City, Millwall and Sunderland are all keen to sign the 21-year-old on-loan in the January transfer window, following his impressive performances with Bradford City.

Gilliead has been an ever-present figure for Bradford in League One this season, making 18 appearances in total for Stuart McCall’s promotion chasing side.

However, his loan deal is set to expire in the New Year and, following his performances in the third-tier, Newcastle may believe it’s beneficial for the young midfielder to get experience playing at a higher level.

As such, a move to the Championship could be the ideal next step in Gilliead’s development and would continue his journey through the leagues in recent years, where he’s also spent time on-loan with Carlisle United and Luton Town.

A move to Newcastle’s rivals Sunderland on-loan seems unlikely though but a switch to Hull or Millwall, both of whom are struggling this season, could certainly be on the cards.
