The 21-year-old Leicester City attacker signed for the Foxes midway through their Premier League title winning season but has struggled to retain a starting spot at the club, making just three starts this season in the league.
Gray will have an outside chance of sneaking into England’s World Cup squad next summer if he secures regular football and Newcastle could offer that, as the versatile attacking winger can provide competition to Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu.
