Serie A giants AC Milan are set to rival Newcastle United for the signature of MLS star Miguel Almiron, reports Metro US.

The Atlanta playmaker has been heavily linked with winter move to Tyneside as Rafael Benitez looks to strengthen his squad.

The Magpies will now however face competition from AC Milan for the Paraguay star, with the Serie A giants also keen to add the youngster to their roster.

Almiron had a terrific breakthrough season in America’s top division with Atlanta, and has scored 9 goals and made 8 assists this year alone, leading to him attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe including Arsenal, as well as Newcastle and AC Milan.

The 23-year-old is expected to cost around £15 million should any suitors wish to lure him away from the MLS, however Atlanta are thought to want to keep hold of their prized asset as they look to maintain a challenge for Eastern Conference title.
