Chelsea and Manchester United have both joined the race to sign long time Newcastle United target Cenk Tosun, reports Turkish Football.

Only earlier this week the Turkey international seemed to be growing closer to completing a January transfer to St James’ Park, with his current club Besiktas and the Magpies reportedly opening talks over a £20 million switch to Tyneside after the New Year.

However, they will now face competition from two of England’s biggest clubs after both Chelsea and Manchester United sent scouts to watch the Turkish star in action during the Champions League.

Tosun helped his side progress to the last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-1 draw with Porto, in turn making Besiktas the first ever Turkish side to top a UCL group in history.

The 26-year-old has had an impressive start to the season, scoring 15 times in all competitions for both club and country, including four goals in the Champions League.

Tottenham and Everton are also thought to be interested.
