Newcastle United continue to be embroiled amongst takeover talks, with Mike Ashley keen to sell his stake in the club but time ticking down to his Christmas deadline.

The likelihood is that the Sports Direct magnate will not be able to complete a deal before the festive season, following the rejection of an opening offer reported to be worth around £300m from Amanda Staveley and PCP.

It’s widely expected that it will be 44-year-old Staveley and her consortium that achieve a takeover of Newcastle but The Shields Gazette states that other parties could still enter the running, potentially driving the price up to a figure that is suitable for Ashley.

PCP have not been granted a period of exclusivity and it’s reported that a number of other interested parties have also signed non-disclosure agreements with Newcastle United, with one or more of them potentially looking to make an offer.

Whilst this is good news for Ashley and increases the likelihood of a sale, it does mean that discussions could drag on for an extended period.
