Newcastle United are set to offload out-of-favour star Jack Colback this January by offering him to a number of clubs, reports the Chronicle.

Colback was told recently in no uncertain terms by manager Rafael Benitez that he does not feature in the Spaniard’s plans for the rest of the season and has no future on Tyneside, meaning he would be free to leave the club after the New Year.

Scouts from Leeds United and Birmingham City were reportedly on hand to watch the midfielder in action for Magpies reserve side in a 4-1 win over Reading during the week.

The 28-year-old is yet to feature for Rafael Benitez first team this season, finding himself below the likes of Mikel Merino, Jonjo Shelvey, Mo Diame and others in the midfield pecking order at St James Park.

Benitez is thought to be keen to offload Colback in an effort to lower the club’s wage bill – he is currently costing Newcastle an estimated £40,000 per week – and make room for any new recruits he may bring in after the New Year.
