Newcastle United have suffered an immense decline in recent weeks and now stand with just one victory from their last six matches, which has seen the Magpies plummet down the Premier League standings as a result.

Rafael Benitez’s side have struggled for consistency in front of goal, with summer signing Joselu scoring just twice and Dwight Gayle only opening his account in last week’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester United, which makes a new striker the January priority.

Besiktas ace Cenk Tosun has widely been reported to be Newcastle’s favoured option in the January window and reports from Turkey, cited by Sports Witnessclaim the Tyneside outfit are ready to raise their offer for the in-form forward.

Interest in the Turkish forward is rife following his superb form, particularly in the Champions League, but Besiktas are already exploring potential replacements, including French international striker Andre Piere Gignac, which suggests they’re prepared for a sale.

However, the Magpies would have to exceed the club record £16m fee paid for Michael Owen over a decade ago if they’re to get their man.
