Newcastle United could be ready yo offer out-of-favour defender Luke Shaw a route out of Old Trafford this January, reports the Daily Star.

The Magpies are on the verge of being taken over by financier Amanda Staveley and her company PCP Capital Partners, leading to rumours of moves for a number of players after the New Year due to newly available transfer funds.

In a meeting held between investors this week, it is reported Shaw was one of a number of names who were mentioned when it came to business this January, with both Ross Barkley’s and Andy Carroll’s names also being thrown into the mix.

Shaw, who joined United back in the summer of 2014 as one of England’s most promising stars, has had a frustrating time at Old Trafford with injuries and managerial preferences, and could now finally leave the Red Devils after making only 49 appearances in 4 years.

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is thought to be keen to bolster his defensive options after the New Year, and could turn to Shaw, however would have to pay around £20 million for his services in order for United to recoup most of the £30 million invested in him in 2014.
