Newcastle United have opened talks over the January transfer of Turkey international Cenk Tosun, reports Turkish Football.

Tosun, who only this evening helped ensure Besiktas’ progression to the last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-1 draw against Porto, has been heavily linked with a move to St James Park over the past few months.

The striker has too been linked with a host of other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, however it is now the Magpies who lead the race for the UCL star.

The 26-year-old’s father Senol Tosun reportedly travelled to England to hold talks with Newcastle officials, ahead of a potential £20 million after the New Year, and will now go back to his current club to discuss his future.

Tosun has four goals and one assist in the Champions League this season, and has an impressive 10 goals in 16 games for the Eagles.
