Newcastle United have been linked with a January move for out-of-favour Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, reports Newcastle Toons.

Rafael Benitez is understood to be looking to add firepower this January after whats been a difficult few months in front of goal for his current crop of strikers.

Trio Alexandr Mitrovic, Joselu and Dwight Gayle have managed just 4 goals between them in all competitions so far this season, and the former, Mitrovic, is widely rumoured to be on his way out of St James’ Park this winter due to a breakdown in relationship between the Serbian and manager Benitez.

The Spaniard is now thought to be turning his attention to Slimani to answer his problems in front of goal, with the Foxes star struggling for game time at the King Power.

The Algerian has made just one Premier League start all season, and has failed to find the net. He has however, been prolific in the League Cup, scoring 4 times in his 3 starts.

Slimani joined the Foxes for a club record fee of £28 million in the summer of 2016, and since made 36 appearances, scoring 11 times.
