Newcastle United are being linked with a host of strikers ahead of the January transfer window, as Rafael Benitez looks to improve upon a misfiring forward line.

The Magpies have struggled for consistency in front of goal this season, with summer signing Joselu joint-top of the scoring charts alongside Jamaal Lascelles with just two goals each, and it’s an area where the Tyneside giants are keen to improve.

A number of names have been mentioned, including former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres. Currently back at Atletico Madrid, the veteran could be on the move in January when Diego Costa returns to the Spanish capital.

Whilst some fans fear that Torres may be past it, and have expressed their concerns after remembering the struggles he endured at Stamford Bridge, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer believes that the Spaniard would be a good signing for his beloved club.

Speaking to Coral on Facebook Live, he said:

“I think that’s one of the areas where are Newcastle are struggling at this moment of time – scoring goals.”

“We do need additions to give us something different, someone with a bit of presence who can sniff out a goal. If you’ve got a guy who can get you 10-15 league goals a season, that can make the difference.

“So yeah, I think he would be a good addition. If he is available, he’d do a decent job at Newcastle.”
