Newcastle United are intent on bolstering their squad in January as they seek to find stability in the Premier League and it appears that discussions on new recruits are already underway.

Turkish newspaper Haberturk report that the Magpies held talks with Besiktas this week regarding a January deal for in-form striker Cenk Tosun, although Rafael Benitez’s side face potential competition from Tottenham Hotspur.

Tosun has been in electric form this season, with the highlight being four goals in four Champions League matches, and that form has caught the eye of sides around Europe- including Newcastle, who are desperate for a consistent striker to lead their line.

With 41 goals over the course of the past two seasons, Tosun could certainly be the man that Newcastle are looking for but luring him to the North East could be extremely difficult due to the potential competition they face in the market.

Besiktas are also performing well in Europe and Tosun may not want to move if his side advance through to the knock-out stages of the Champions League, which would give the striker an opportunity to raise his stock further.

However, a reported price-tag of £17.7m means this is a deal that Newcastle can complete- especially if they get new funds following a takeover.
