Midfielder Jack Colback has been told he has ‘no future’ at St James Park.

Colback has fallen out of Rafael Benitez’s favour this season, and has instead been training with the club’s U23s.

And despite injury problems to a number of players in the Spaniard’s midfield including Mikel Merino and Issac Hayden, it appears Colback will not be getting any closer to the first team.

“He is training with the U23s at the Academy.” said Benitez when questioned on Colback’s situation. “He knows the situation and I only concentrate on players I actually have.

“Without Merino, we can play Mo Diame, Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden and Henri Saivet. We can also play Chancel Mbemba there.

“Jack knows the situation”

Colback was heavily rumoured to be leaving the club this summer, however failed to secure a move to Hull City or Wolves, both of whom were interested in the 28-year-old.
