Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is set to make a shock switch to St James Park in January, reports Dream Team.

The out-of-favour star has failed to impress Jose Mourinho upon his long awaited return to fitness and is reportedly free to leave Old Trafford after the New Year.

Magpies manager Rafael Benitez is said to be a big fan of Shaw, and is considering a move for him come January.

While United want to part ways with him permanently and would be looking for around £20 million for his signature, Benitez would prefer to take Shaw on loan as he lacks the funds to make the 22-year-old’s move away from Old Trafford permanent.

Newcastle will face competition from a number of clubs for the defender however, with Tottenham one of a handful of clubs keeping tabs on the situation.

Mauricio Pochettino, who gave Shaw his first time breakthrough during there time together at Southampton, remains a big admirer of the left-back, and with the future of Danny Rose unclear, may look to take Shaw to White Hart Lane should Rose leave the club.
