Newcastle United have opened talks with Liverpool over the potential transfer of Danny Ings, reports Bleacher Report.

Reports suggest that both the Magpies and Southampton have been in contact with the Reds over a deal for the out-of-favour striker.

Liverpool are thought to want to allow Ings to leave the club this January on a loan deal in order for him to earn some valuable first team football – something he has struggled for at Anfield since his switch from Burnley in the summer of 2015.

The Englishman has been plagued by injury during his time at Anfield, limiting him to only 12 appearances in all competitions since his move from Turf Moor.

While he has returned to the first team squad this season, Ings has only made one appearance in a League Cup defeat to Leicester City, he has also spent time with the club’s reserve side and the U21s.

Both Newcastle and Southampton now look set to offer the injury prone star a, at least temporary, way out of his Merseyside nightmare and are expected to move for the striker after the New Year.
