Newcastle United have been linked with a shock move for former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.

The Spaniard, currently at Atletico Madrid, has struggled for game time this season, finding himself down the striking pecking order at the La Liga club behind all of Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro and Angel Correa.

With ex-Chelsea star Diego Costa also to added to Diego Simeone’s squad this January, Torres now find himself surplus to requirements.

‘El Nino’ could be offered an unlikely route back to England however with Newcastle, in a move that would see him again partner up with his former boss Rafael Benitez.

Torres played under Benitez during his time at Liverpool, where he found the most prolific form of his career, subsequently making himself an Anfield hero.

The duo also worked together at Chelsea, however enjoyed relatively less success.

Rafael Benitez is looking to bolster his attacking options after a poor start to the season in front of goal from his current crop of strikers, and it is believed the former Real Madrid man would be keen a reunion for his former player.
