Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has been given a big injury boost ahead of his side’s upcoming clash with Chelsea at the weekend.

Matt Richie, who was injured during the Magpies recent 3-0 defeat to Watford, was initially thought to be ruled out of action with a wrist problem, is now expected to be fit again for Saturday’s clash at Stamford Bridge.

However after wearing a protective cast after his injury in last night’s hard earned draw against West Brom, the Scot has opted to continue playing through the pain barrier and is likely to start for Benitez’s side against the Blues.

Richie was a key man during Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with West Brom, and his presence will be a much needed boost for the Magpies who are without a win in five top flight games.

Before the draw at the Hawthorns, Newcastle had lost four Premier League games on the bounce, seeing them slip to 12th in the table after having been as high as 4th earlier in the season.
