Newcastle star Christian Atsu has been nominated for the Confederation of African Football’s African Player of the Year.

Atsu is named alongside a number of high profile stars that make the 30-man-shortlist, including Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Chelsea star Victor Moses.

The Ghanian international has been a key figure in Newcastle’s solid start to the new season, starting all 10 of Rafael Benitez’s side’s 10 Premier League games so far, finding the net once.

He has also been an instrumental figure for his international side, helping Ghana to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations earlier in the year and being nominated for the Player of the Tournament award.

The winner of the award will be decided by a vote undertaken by the head coaches of the African national associations, members of the CAF Technical and Development Committee and a reported panel of media experts, with the winner being announced at a ceremony of January 4th 2018.

Previous winners of the award include Riyad Mahrez, Yaya Toure and Samuel Eto’o.
