Interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Mitrovic has hit a new high as the January transfer window approaches.

The Serbian has failed to make a Premier League start for the Magpies this season, and has scored twice in all competitions. He also saw red for a controversial elbow earlier in the campaign and was handed a three match ban.

A number of clubs from the Premier League, the Championship and even as far as China have now stated their interest in the striker, with it being thought he will be allowed to leave St James Park after the New Year.

Amongst potential suitors are Brighton and Hove Albion, Leeds and Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, all of whom would have to pay somewhere in the region of £10 million should they want to secure his services.

Newcastle have been linked to a number of strikers this January, including both Danny Ings and Fernando Torres, further throwing Mitrovic’s future on Tyneside into doubt.
