It’s a difficult time to be a Newcastle United fan due to all the uncertainty surrounding the club and the past few days have been particularly challenging for supporters, who have seen Mike Ashley reject a bid for the club.

Ashley is keen to sell, and wants to conclude a deal before Christmas, but Amanda Staveley and PCP’s offer of £300m was deemed to not be good enough by the Sports Direct magnate, with reports claiming it was the second bid lodged.

The Northern Echo claims Staveley is now considering a fresh approach after seeing a one-off payment offer of below £300m rejected by Ashley, having previously been rebuffed in an offer of £350m to be paid in instalments.

Ashley has stated he’d be willing to accept instalments as payment for the Premier League club but is holding out for his valuation of £400m, which Staveley and PCP are not willing to meet- meaning negotiations will rumble on.

As it stands, it looks extremely unlikely that a deal will be concluded by Christmas and that could lead to a frustrating January transfer window, where Benitez will be determined to buy to improve his squad.
