Michael Owen has predicted that his former club Newcastle United will be given a tough time at St James Park this weekend by an in-form Watford side.

The Magpies welcome Marco Silva’s side to Tyneside on Saturday, and in doing so, see a side in perhaps their best ever form make their way up North.

The Hornets currently sit 8th in the Premier League after a terrific start, with their most recent victory being a comprehensive 2-0 dispatching of struggling West Ham.

The hosts however go into the weekend’s tie on the back of three consecutive defeats, and Owen believes Newcastle will have their work cut out to get anything from the game on Saturday.

“After a good start to the campaign Newcastle have now lost their last three PL games in a row and a draw might not be the worst result for the hosts as they try to settle the ship against a very good Watford side.” said Owen.

“The Hornets were too good for West Ham at Vicarage Road last weekend and, if they win at St James’s Park, they will already have picked up more points on the road this term than they did in the whole of last season.”

Despite saying it will be a tough day at the offices, the ex-England star believes the spoils will be shared on the day.

“They may have to settle for a point on this occasion however.”
