Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to praise club captain Jamaal Lascelles after the Englishman’s heart-warming gesture to an ex-marine.
Lascelles, 24, came to the rescue of the former serviceman after he fell out of his wheelchair.
A woman who has asked not to be named, has told how Lascelles spotted the amputee in difficulty outside Hana Hana, a Japanese restaurant in Newcastle.
Following his fall, the source said that Lascelles took the man for drinks, gave his gloves and paid for a taxi home for the man after being unable to fit his wheelchair in his car.
The source said on her Facebook account: “Hats off to Jamaal Lascelles!!
“So me dads at work and gets a job to pick up a man from Hannah Hannah, the man has tried to cross the cobbled street and his wheelchair got stuck, he then fell out of it and was basically on the road so Jamaal seen him and picks him up takes him into Hannah Hannah pays for his drinks, gives him his gloves and offers to take him home but can’t get him into his car as it was to high up so rings him a taxi, pays for it and puts him in the taxi!
“The mans an ex marine and lost his leg!! What a guy.”

It’s nice to see a bit of balance, usually the media is only interested in hanging footballers out to dry, it’s a nice gesture and his wealth is irrelevant. People want footballers to be role model but belittle when they do something worthy of being one
