Newcastle United pair Mikel Merino and Paul Dummett have handed manager Rafael Benitez a much needed boost ahead of this weekend’s clash with Watford with both players reportedly to be available for the clash against Marco Silva’s side.

The Magpies have lost three top flight games on the bounce after what was a mightily impressive start to the season, with the absence of key man and summer signing Merino proving a real loss in the Newcastle midfield over the past few weeks.

Merino, who signed from Borussia Dortmund during the summer, has spent the last few weeks sidelines with a back injury, while Dummett is yet to appear since injuring his hamstring in the first game of the season for Rafael Benitez’s side.

Both however are now set for a comeback, much to the Spaniard’s relief.

“I think it’s important to have players coming back,” he told nufc.co.uk.

“With Merino, he was doing so well and the fans were so excited. If he is OK it will be a big boost for everyone, because you always need quality.

“Dummett is important for us, because he is one of the only left-footed full backs that we have. He is someone who has some experience too, and will give us more competition and different options.”

Newcastle will be hoping to end their winless run in November with victory of Watford at St James Park this weekend.
