Newcastle cult hero Shola Ameobi has been inducted into the club foundation’s Hall of Fame.

The charity, which held it’s annual dinner on Tuesday evening, inducted both Ameobi and Les Ferdinand on the 125th anniversary of the club.

A special dinner at Exhibition Park, themed to mark the club’s anniversary, saw the duo join a host of fellow St James’ legends in the Hall of Fame including Alan Shearer, Jackie Milburn, Bob Moncur, Peter Beardsley, Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson.

Ameobi, now 36 and plying his trade in League Two with Notts County, made 397 appearances over 14 years with the Magpies, finding the net one shy of 80 times.

The Nigeria international, despite his rather lacklustre goal-scoring record, became a cult hero on Tyneside during his time with the club, and was adored by fans commitment to the club, even during the season after their top flight relegation in 2009/10, where he was a key figure in helping the Magpies climb straight back-up to the Premier League.
