Newcastle United are desperate to rejuvenate their side in the January transfer window and could be aided by the ongoing takeover talks that surround the sides.

Those discussions have certainly led to excitement amongst Magpies supporters but the transfer sagas taking place around Tyneside in the New Year won’t solely be regarding incoming deals, as there is likely to be departures too.

Amongst those likely to be on the way out is midfielder Jack Colback, with The Chronicle stating Championship duo Leeds United and Birmingham City both sent scouts to watch the former Sunderland man in action last week for the U23 side.

Colback is deemed to be surplus to requirements and Rafael Benitez is keen to offload the 28-year-old, freeing up squad space and financial manoeuvrability, but they may find it difficult to remove him from the squad.

Offered the chance to join both Wolves and Hull on-loan in the summer, Colback rejected a move as he wanted to stay in the North East.
