Newcastle United have performed admirably in their return to the Premier League but still have a lot of work to do if they’re to retain their status in the top-flight.
Sitting pretty over the November international break, Rafael Benitez will be somewhat concerned though by a slip in recent weeks that has seen the Magpies win just one of their last five Premier League matches.
Two consecutive 1-0 defeats to Burnley and Bournemouth have somewhat changed the landscape of Newcastle’s season and a tough test now awaits, starting in this weekend’s fierce clash with Manchester United.
Newcastle’s problems in front of goal this season have been well documented and a new striker in January is likely, particularly with the club in the midst of a new era as takeover talks continue behind the scenes- with the aim of concluding a deal in the next month.
That will give Newcastle money to spend but it seems Benitez is ready to keep his cards close to his chest and approve the signing of a veteran striker who won’t break the bank, in the form of Atletico Madrid’s Fernando Torres.
Fans are certainly split on their opinions and took to social media to give their view on the situation.

We need a goalscorer . I seem to remember when last in England that was his big problem.

Hasn’t he been linked with us the past 5/8 windows? Getting a bit boring this one now 😒

Is it wrong that I still believe he can do a job? He was supported by Gerrard and Alonso, running on to long balls, Shelvey could pick him out easy!
