Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is likely to be without a number of key players this weekend when his side travel to Old Trafford.

Mikel Merino, who has been the club’s stand-out player in what has been a solid start to the new season, remains sidelined with a back injury, whilst club captain Jamaal Lascelles is too a doubt for the weekend.

Lascelles picked up an ankle injury during the recent 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth, and is not expected to recover in time for the trip to Manchester.

Christian Atsu, who suffered a knock whilst on international duty with Ghana, may also have to miss out, meaning Benitez is now without three of his regular starters for what will be a difficult game against Jose Mourinho’s side.

The Red Devils however, too have injury woes of their own, and are too expected to be without a number of players.

Paul Pogba, who has spent nine weeks sidelined with a hamstring injury, is a doubt the clash, whilst defender Phil Jones is likely to have a late assessment to see whether he will be fit to face the Magpies.

Newcastle travel to Manchester United this Saturday in the day’s late kick-off at 5:30pm.
